The very idea of a film about the struggles of an all-female collegiate a-capella group is enough to send most people running for cover. But trust us when we say this is no mere Glee cash-in. Sure, there's singing (and plenty of it). But instead of overwrought emotional guff, 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon gives us brilliant characters and no end of genuinely great gags.

Written by, directed and starring the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, The Man with the Iron Fists is less a love letter to Hong Kong martial arts movies than a tortured pastiche-come-vanity project that wears out its welcome long before the final credits role. On a positive note, it does at least sound absolutely spectacular on Blu-ray thanks to a thunderous DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix. It also looks pretty epic thanks to a surprisingly refined AVC 2.40:1 1080p encode. However, apart from including two versions of the film ('theatrical' and 'unrated'), the disc's extras are minimal.

It may not be quite as sophisticated as the awards-hype led us to believe, but this likeable film still manages to inject some much-needed intelligence, strong performances and a sense of emotional realism back into the usually trite rom-com genre. Entertainment in Video's hi-def release provides a slightly dull AVC 2.40:1 108 encode that often lacks detail – although this appears to be endemic of the source material rather than the disc itself. The DTS- HD MA 5.1 mix is more accomplished, with superb dynamic range. Ten cast and crew interviews are the only extras.

With a story that brings together Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Sandman, the Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost to do battle with Pitch Black (aka pitch, aka The Boogeyman), Rise of the Guardians is essentially the Avengers Assemble of seasonal movies.

Not even the combined star power of Fred Astaire (coming back out of retirement after Gene Kelly broke his ankle) and Judy Garland can make Easter Parade anything more than a not-entirely-convincing attempt at repackaging a litany of old MGM musical numbers. Not that any of this has stopped Warner Bros. from delivering yet another gorgeous Technicolor restoration for the film's Blu-ray debut. The richly-coloured AVC 1.37:1 1080p encode and DTS-HD MA mono sonics both flatter the source material, and informative extras include a commentary and 1951 radio adaptation.

Disney's latest CG animation is a textbook example of coming up with a great concept for a movie, but then struggling to turn it into a great story.

Having wrapped up an eight-year term as Governor of California, it was no surprise to learn that Arnold Schwarzenegger was planning a return to the silver screen. But at 65-years of age, many wondered if the former superstar would still have what it takes to kick-ass with the best of them.

Between Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, George A. Romero took time out to riff on classic Arthurian legends with this frequently overlooked tale of a renaissance fair troupe of jousting bikers.

An old face returns to torment our undead heroes, and an even older face tempts them down a path nobody could have predicted, in this latest season of HBO's gory, sexy and curiously camp supernatural series. The end result isn't the best the show has ever been, but it shows clear signs of improvement from the previous season.

Move over Roland Emmerich, director Juan Antonio Bayona has delivered a disaster movie for a fraction of the cost of your popcorn epics, and it’s a magnitude more terrifying.

Set 60 years prior to the events of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit tells the story of reluctant adventurer Bilbo Baggins, who joins the wizard Gandalf and a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim their former home and the treasure it contains from the dragon Smaug. Or, at least, that's the idea behind J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved children's book.

Based on a novel by Don Winslow, Savages stars Blake Lively as 'O', a somewhat unreliable narrator ('Just because I'm telling you this doesn't mean I'm alive at the end,' she says early on) and beach bunny girlfriend to Southern Californian dope growers Chon (Taylor Kitch) and Ben (Aaron Johnson). Unfortunately, the trio's idyllic and hedonistic lifestyle goes completely to pot when a Mexican cartel decides to muscle in on the action…

Forget mega-budget blockbusters like Spider-Man and Oz: The Great and Powerful – for most knowledgeable film fanatics Sam Raimi will always be remembered as the man who gave us the Evil Dead trilogy.

Stephanie Meyer didn't so much rewrite the rule book on vampires as completely throw it out of the window with her dreary saga of the love between a pouty living girl and a brooding undead boy who sparkles in the sunlight.

Having been quite taken with English filmmaker Michael J. Bassett's swords 'n' sorcery outing Solomon Kane, we were looking forward to seeing what he'd do with this videogame-inspired horror sequel. Sadly, apart from adding 3D to the mix, the answer is not very much.
