Independent AV retailer Crampton & Moore has announced it will be holding a TV shootout event on Nov 7 (this Saturday), featuring Panasonic's new CZ952 (pictured below) and LG's EF950V 4K OLED TVs, as well as a blast-from-the-past Panasonic ZT65, the brand's final, triumphant limited-edition plasma.

Plasma was the go-to TV technology for video enthusiasts for a long time, but following the arrival of 4K Ultra HD, the display technology is now defunct. OLED's true blacks (granted by its self-emissive characteristic) promise to bring picture quality to even greater heights, but can its potential be fulfilled in real-world implementations? That's what Crampton & Moore aims to find out in this free-to-attend event.

And the Yorkshire-based retailer has roped in ISF calibrator and HCC columnist Vincent Teoh, plus Blu-ray compressionist David Mackenzie, to not only calibrate the TVs to the standard used within the film and broadcast industry, but also evaluate the panels and present their findings to attendees. Various aspects of image quality will be assessed and demonstrated, including (but not limited to) black level, colour accuracy, motion performance and video processing.

Says David Conner, manager at the Leeds branch of Crampton & Moore: 'This is a unique opportunity for both casual TV buyers and videophiles to see for themselves the best of OLED versus the best of plasma. It will be the first public side-by-side comparison event in the world to feature a Panasonic OLED, not to mention an LG flat-screen 4K OLED TV, in all their calibrated glory.'
