Fox brings The Revenant to UHD Blu-ray in June
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has confirmed that Alejandro G. Inarritu's award-winning tale of survival and revenge, The Revenant, will be arriving on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on June 6.
The year's most celebrated film (as evidenced by the awards it's been showered with, including three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and five BAFTAs), The Revenant takes its inspiration from real events and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as frontiersman and hunter Hugh Glass, who is left for dead by his hunting party after being attacked by a bear. Digging himself out of his grave, Glass heads out into the harsh winter to track down those who left him behind and get his revenge...
Although the DVD release looks set to be a barebones affair, the Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray versions will include a stills gallery and the documentary A World Unseen. This 45-minute Making of... doc (which is already streaming on Fox's YouTube channel) aims to 'take viewers into the world of 19th Century America'.
While The Revenant looks set to be Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's first day-and-date Ultra HD Blu-ray release in the UK, the studio is conducting what it has told HCC is a 'soft launch' for the format with the release of eight catalogue titles on Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK on April 11. This first wave set for release includes Exodus: Gods and Kings, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Fantastic Four, The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Life of Pi, Hitman: Agent 47 and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
No UK word yet on pricing, or the soundmix the disc will carry - the film featured a Dolby Atmos mix in theatres, yet the studio has so far given domestic 3D audio a swerve. However, our friends at US site Next Generation HomeTheater are reporting it will have DTS HD MA 7.1.
