Fox's Bad Times at the El Royale is its first HDR10+ 4K Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Fox announced it would introduce HDR10+ (the royalty-free dynamic metadata standard and rival to Dolby Vision) to 4K Blu-ray as far back as 2017 – now it has lived up to its promise by confirming Bad Times at the El Royale will be its first 4K HDR10+ disc release.

The movie, a pulpish hotel-set thriller starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Bridges and Jon Hamm, will land on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD (plus digital download) in the UK on February 4.

While confirming the HDR10+ encode, Fox UK hasn't provided soundmix details – but we expect it to mirror the US release, meaning the UHD platter will offer a Dolby Atmos mix, while DTS-HD MA 7.1 will grace the 1080p version.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray/4K releases include trailers, a galley and a Making Bad Times at the El Royale featurette.

HDR10+ was launched by Samsung in April 2017, with Amazon, Fox and Warner Bros coming on as content partners. Panasonic and Philips have since joined the party.

Recently, we saw the first HDR10+ 4k releases in the shape of IMAX Enhanced documentaries.
