Sharp announces second-generation 8K displays

Japanese tech brand also partnering with Italian design studio Pininfarina on luxury AV collection

While other TV manufacturers are gearing up to release their first 8K models, Sharp has been using the IFA tech expo (currently taking place in Berlin) to show off its second-generation 8K displays. Having already already brought the EISA Award-winning LV-70X500E 70in 8K monitor to retail earlier this year, the company has now announced three new 8K models - sized 60in, 70in and 80in - the largest of which is set to launch in Europe in 2019.

Full specifications and availability for the new 8K TV and monitor line-up have yet to be revealed. However, the 80in flagship model will boast Sharp's newly-developed UV 2A II LCD panel, which apparently provides a highly efficient light transmission.

Sharp also used its IFA press conference to announce a new partnership with world-famous Italian design studio Pininfarina. Hoping to bring some of the style it has brought to Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo sports cars to the world of audio-visual kit, the 'Sharp by Pininfarina' collection promises to 'breathe new life into Sharp's corporate motto ('Be Original')' with its 'clear, dynamic lines, elegant and distinctive forms, as well as innovative details'. Among the initial jointly-developed products on show at IFA are three designs for premium TVs, a soundbar (pictured below) and a portable Bluetooth speaker.
