Nearly 2 months after US release cheers SONY even though it realesed in the UK before the US
Venom to get 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut on Feb 4
The studio will hope the comic book adaptation's home media launch, including release on digital platforms from January 26, will continue the movie's strong performance – it has earned over $845m at cinemas worldwide, currently just shy of Spider-Man: Homecoming's $880m gross.
Special features on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases include a Venom Mode pop-up track; deleted and extended scenes, including a longer post-credits sequence; further features about stuntwork, Easter Eggs and character design; eight pre-vis VFX breakdowns; and music videos and Into the Spider-Verse trailer.
Steelbook fans may want to head to HMV for this exclusive limited edition Steelbook release with funky cover art, or three-disc Funko Pop Box Set release with some very cool packaging (below).
This release continues Sony Pictures' pick-'n'-mix implementation of Dolby Vision on 4K HDR titles. While it launched its first DV-encoded disc last year (Resident Evil: Vendetta) and recently gave Spider-Man: Homecoming the dynamic metadata treatment, movies such as The Equalizer 2 (out on 4K BD on December 10) are sticking with HDR10.
3D fans will be irked to discover there's no Venom 3D Blu-ray release currently scheduled.
Note that the studio still hasn't released final artwork for the 4K release, but says it will get a 15 certificate, not the 18 rating suggested by the pre-release mock up.
