Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) has teamed up with Dolby to bring Atmos audio mixes to its Ultra HD Blu-ray releases 'over the coming years', including its initial run that includes The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Salt, Hancock, Chappie, Pineapple Express, and The Smurfs 2.  It has previously released Atmos-encoded titles in the US (including Bram Stoker's Dracula), but none so far in the UK. It's first 3D audio title – the Adam Sandler comedy Pixels – unexpectedly sported an Auro-3D soundtrack in Blighty.

Sony has confirmed that its new X9 4K TV will be arriving on UK shores this Summer. Priced around £4,000 for the 55in model and £6,000 for the 65in version, the Bravia X9 Ultra HD TV will be available at UK stores from mid-June. In addition, the consumer electronics giant is already taking pre-orders for the screens at www.sony.co.uk.

Sony's new 2013 Full HD LED TVs are finally available for pre-order in preparation for their arrival at the end of April. Interestingly, the pricing sees the top-flight KDL-55W905A, a 55in W9 series model, tackle the £2,500 price point so beloved of rivals Samsung, Philips and Panasonic. Last year, the brand's most expensive screen, the KDL-55HX83, was launched at a mere £1,800.

Sony has announced that it is releasing a new firmware update for its VPL-VW320ES 4K home cinema projector that makes it capable of handling High Dynamic Range content. The upgrade makes the VPL-VW320ES the third Sony home cinema projector to support the 4K HDR format, alongside the VPL-VW5000ES and VPL-VW520ES.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that it will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1984 classic Ghostbusters with a series of special events and home entertainment releases. The highlight of which will be the return of the original film to cinemas – restored and remastered in 4K - for one day only across the UK on October 28th.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced its first wave of Ultra HD Blu-ray releases for the UK. As expected, the titles in question are the same as those the studio released in the US at the end of February and include The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Salt, Hancock, Chappie, The Pineapple Express and The Smurfs 2. The discs go on sale in the UK on May 23.

Sony has announced a new 4K home cinema projector to sit alongside the £16,800 VPL-VW1000ES. The new VPL-VW500ES will be priced at £8,500 when it goes on sale at the end of October and supports the newly ratified HDMI 2.0 specification, allowing it to play 4K/60P content.

After appearing at the recent IFA show in prototype form, Sony's debut 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player has now been confirmed during the CEDIA Expo taking place in the US. The deck, dubbed the UBP-X1000ES, adds Super Audio CD and DVD Audio playback to the usual UHD BD and HDR mix, and will be available in Spring 2017.
