Denon joins the 'speaker base' party
Having manufactured more soundbars than there are actual TVs to go with them, the AV industry is turning its attention to speakers that sit underneath your telly to give them a sonic leg up, and Denon has joined the fray with its new DHT-T100 Speaker Base.
Priced at £250 and available from mid-October, this sonic slab can handle weights of upto 27kg and accommodates 'most' screens up to 50in. Within its low-slung black body are 2 x 5in oval-shaped midbass drivers and a pair of 0.5in tweeters, married to what Denon will only say is a 'powerful digital amplifier'. The back of the unit sports two bass reflex ports.
In terms of features, the Denon offers optical, coaxial and analogue phono hookup to your TV – there's no HDMI switching here. Bluetooth audio streaming is, however, provided, and includes aptX support.
The DHT-T100 Speaker Base comes with a remote control, and can learn commands from an existing TV remote. Digital signal processing delivers five listening modes, including one optimised for dialogue delivery. Dolby Digital decoding is joined by Virtual Surround Sound technology.
'By drawing on expert knowledge and input from its Hi-Fi and home cinema heritage, the Denon DHT-T100 TV Speaker Base supplies a full and satisfying sound that finally lives up to the modern TV’s visual standards,' reckons the brand. Look out for a review soon.
