Doctor Who's 50th anniversary plans revealed
Get ready for an explosion of Doctor Who across TV and radio later this year as the BBC celebrates the hit science-fiction show's 50th anniversary. To mark the occassion the Beeb will be screening a special episode of the current series featuring Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper and John Hurt, alongside a host of documentaries and other programmes. Here's what Auntie has revealed so far...
BBC One
The Day of the Doctor - this special 75-minute long episode will be broadcast on November 23 and will answer the mystery of John Hurt's 'Dark Doctor'. You can check out the teaser poster for the episode at the top of this article.
BBC Two
Title TBC - Professor Brian Cox explores the science of Doctor Who in a lecture recorded at the Royal Institution of Great Britain.
Me, You and Doctor Who - Matthew Sweet hosts this hour-long Culture Show special exploring the cultural significance of the long-running series.
An Adventure in Space and Time - David Bradley and Jessica Raine star as William Hartnell and Verity Lambert in this 90-minute drama about the creation of Doctor Who, written by Mark Gatiss.
BBC Three
Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend - A countdown of the top Doctor Who baddies as voted by you.
Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide - Promises to 'introduce those less familiar with the show to a wealth of archive material and act as a guide to all-things Who'.
TBA - The BBC also promises 'an exciting commision to be announced later this year which will see the celebrations finish with a bang'.
