Epson announces LS10500, second-generation laser projector

Supports HDR, but 4K is still via 'enhancement' rather than native tech

Epson has announced its EH-LS10500 projector, a sequel to its EH-LS10000 laser model that introduces HDR and Ultra HD Blu-ray playback to the spec sheet.

Available from November priced around £6,000, this high-end beamer employs Epson's usual 3LCD reflective panel technology – combined with a dual laser light source – to deliver a claimed 1,500 Lumens brightness output. Lifespan of the PJ's laser is rated at a whopping 30,000 hours.

Keeping the price tag down in comparison to JVC's recently announced £30,000 DLA-Z1 (also employing a laser light engine) is the projector's native Full HD resolution. However, as with the previous EH-LS10000, this model features what Epson describes as '4K enhancement' to upscale 1080p content to Ultra HD resolution.

Buyers can couple this scaling tech to the EH-LS10500's HDR/4K compatible HDMI inputs. Says Charlotte Hone, product manager of Epson UK: 'HDR is set to make home cinema more intense and immersive, so we're really proud of the EH-LS10500, which is now able to show HDR material in all of its glory.' The PJ claims full coverage of the DCI wide colour space.

Onboard features include additional Detail Enhancement and Super Resolution tweaks, frame interpolation, ISF-approved calibration tools, 10 lens position memory presets, and motorised zoom, focus and lens shift controls. Boot up times are super-fast thanks to its laser tech – Epson suggests the model will reach its 'maximum colour performance' after just 20 seconds.
