Improved Linn Majik DSM wants to be your high-end home entertainment hub
The new DSM, which immediately ousts previous models, is based on a more powerful processing platform, has a more expansive feature roster, and, says Linn, boasts an upgraded performance.
Beneath the lid there’s an upgraded DAC, new ‘non-lossy’ digital volume control and low-noise amplification.
The DAC architecture is derived from Linn’s leading-edge Katalyst technology, which boasts improved upsampling, lower noise and an ultra-low jitter clock.
While this new Majik DSM stops short of offering multichannel sound, it does sport four 4K-ready HDMI inputs, one with ARC, allowing it to handle multiple home entertainment sources, from games consoles to TV set-top boxes.
Indeed, there’s not much you can’t route through it, wired or wireless. There’s a high-res audio USB input, and analogue line level audio inputs for turntables or line level components.
The phono stage uses a hybrid architecture derived from Linn’s reference Urika II phono stage, which combines digital and analogue processing said to more precisely implement the RIAA equalisation, for the most accurate vinyl reproduction.
A new design sees the introduction of six customisable smart buttons, which can be configured for any audio source. This could be a radio station or streaming service, or a connected device. There’s also a full-size headphone jack with integrated headphone amplifier.
To ensure best possible performance it comes with Linn’s Space Optimisation technology, which calibrates the system based on your room acoustics.
The Majik DSM sells for £2,950. If you want the full Linn experience, you can buy it in a package, bundled with a special finish (you choose) Majik LP12 turntable, and Majik 109 speakers, for £7,650.
