Manhattan signs up for Freesat's Freetime
Digital TV whiz Manhattan has announced that it will be releasing a new line of 'high-performance' Freetime set-top boxes, joining the likes of Panasonic and Humax in supporting Freesat's next-gen TV platform.
Buyers of the new Manhattan Freetime range (precise hardware details are still to be announced) will be able to roll back the EPG over seven days to access on-demand content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, and Demand 5, and use Showcase, Freesat’s programme recommendation service. The Manhattan boxes will also be compatible with the Freesat mobile companion app, which allows recordings to be scheduled from a smartphone/tablet.
Says Abbas Arbab-Zadeh, Chairman and CEO at Manhattan Technology Ltd: 'Freesat’s Freetime technology provides a world-class TV experience, so we’re delighted to confirm this news today. Freetime puts Manhattan at the cutting-edge of the UK television industry and we look forward to releasing a full range of high-performance Freetime receivers and recorders, all with integrated Wi-Fi.'
Manhattan has been a a Freesat partner for five years. Freesat’s Freetime service launched in 2012, and now accounts for 41 per cent of all Freesat set-top box sales, according to the free-to-air satcaster. Sales of Freetime boxes have more than doubled year-on-year.
