As a company, SVS has taken the ‘no substitute for cubic capacity’ maxim and flogged it to death. Then flogged it a bit more. The PB-2000 subwoofer is at the affordable end of its portfolio but it is still a huge piece of kit. The PB classification denotes a ported model, so as well as a 12in forward-firing driver, there is a 4in port working on the same axis. Now, no 12in woofer is ever going to be tiny, but at 55cm deep and over 50cm high, the PB-2000 is a bit of a whopper.

French filmmaker Claude Lanzmann's Shoah is a fascinating and horrifying account of the Nazi's 'Final Solution'. Shot over the course of 12 years, as Lanzmann travelled the globe looking for Holocaust survivors, this nine-and-a-half-hour film (divided into two parts – First Era and Second Era – and spread across two discs here) interviews concentration camp inmates, eyewitnesses and even former SS commandants, as well as visiting several Holocaust sites across Poland. The result is truly extraordinary and highly recommended.

After a bit of faffing about, Panasonic enters 2015 in pretty good shape from a 4K TV perspective. Its AX802 sets are now – following the belated addition of Netflix 4K streaming support – impressive mid-range options, while its recently released AX902 models do a credible job of simulating the sort of picture qualities previously associated with the brand's plasma screens.
