Struggling to make ends meet after losing his construction job at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) devises a plan to rob the vault at his former employer with the aid of his sister Mellie (Riley Keough) and one-armed brother Clyde (Adam Driver). To pull off the robbery they'll also need incarcerated explosives expert Joe Bang (Daniel Craig), which necessitates first breaking him out of prison and then smuggling him back in without anybody noticing he was missing…

Inspired by real events, American Made stars Tom Cruise as Barry Seal, a TWA pilot with a sideline in smuggling Cuban cigars, who was recruited by the CIA in the late 1970s to fly reconnaissance missions over Central America. During one mission, Seal is greeted by the Medellín Cartel who ask him to fly cocaine into the US for them, something the CIA is quite willing to turn a blind eye to as long as Barry also runs guns to the Nicaraguan Contras.

Westworld stretches the term 'original series', as for this sci-fi Western HBO has simply reimagined the 1973 Michael Crichton flick of the same name. Yet it's successfully taken that film's premise (a Wild West-themed 'park' populated with androids), flipped it so the audience focus is mainly on the A.I. rather than attendees, and expanded it into a layered narrative spanning this first 10-episode season and at least a second run due to air in 2018. Even if the Yul Brynner movie didn't float your boat, this is worth a watch.

No AV enthusiast has ever gone to heaven regretting they bought too big a telly, and TVs don't come much bigger and better than Sony's 100in ZD9. The Bravia ZD9 series was launched in the second half of 2016, and while we've reviewed the 65in model (HCC #267), it's not until now that we've had the chance to put this 100in beast through its paces. At £60,000, it's out of reach for your average punter, but then again, the same can be said about Ferraris. And everyone wants a Ferrari.

When the boyfriend of unemployed writer Gloria (Anne Hathaway) finally gets tired of her feckless lifestyle and kicks her out of his Manhattan pad, she finds herself with nowhere left to go apart from back to her small hometown. There she reconnects with childhood friend Oscar (Jason Sudeikis) and starts working in the bar that he owns, which only serves to exacerbate her drinking problem.

It used to be fairly easy to predict what each new generation of JVC projector would give you. A bit more brightness, even more contrast, and maybe a new calibration tool or two. It’s starting to look, though, as if JVC has gone as far as it can in contrast and brightness terms with its proprietary D-ILA projection tech. The new DLA-X5900 reviewed here claims the same 1,800 Lumens brightness and 400,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio figures delivered by its predecessor, the X5500.

Given the appalling reception it received from critics when it belly-flopped into cinemas this Summer, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this bigscreen Baywatch remake must surely rank among the worst films ever made. You'd be wrong. True, it's not some kind of underrated masterpiece, but providing you're in the mood for some deliberately crude, cheesy and over-the-top hijinks, peppered with knowing winks to the original TV series, then Baywatch is more than capable of tickling your funnybone.
