Based on Masamune Shirow's legendary late '80s manga series of the same name, this Hollywood production of Ghost in the Shell follows the exploits of the Major (Scarlett Johansson), a highly-advanced cyborg working for counterterrorist taskforce Section 9. The first of her kind, the Major is an entirely artificial body housing a brain rescued from a dying young woman.

Set 30 years after the events of its dystopian predecessor, Blade Runner 2049 finds that things have only gotten much worse for everyone in the interim. Pollution is more pronounced, a 10-day electronic blackout has left a gaping wound in humanity’s digital history, mass-starvation was only averted through the development of bug farms and the new breed of Nexus replicants developed by the Wallace Corporation (which has taken over from the defunct Tyrell Corp) are treated little better than slaves by society.

Released last year to tie-in with the arrival in cinemas of its long-awaited sequel, Ridley Scott's Philip K. Dick adaptation starring Harrison Ford gets a 4K HDR outing. Now 35 years old, Blade Runner has lost none of its charm, even if its attempts at mixing film noir tropes with dystopian sci-fi don't always come off smoothly. Icy cool, extravagantly designed and with a spine-tingling Vangelis soundtrack, it's a film no collection should be without.

The Q Series remains KEF's entry point for tower speakers, below the R Series and Reference lines, and the super-stylish and super-expensive Blade and Muon models. If you're looking for the KEF sound writ large, this is where you'll probably start.

Warner Bros. has announced the US home entertainment release date for Blade Runner 2049. According to the official announcement from Warner Bros. director Denis Villenueve's spectacular science-fiction sequel will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and DVD on January 16. The lack of any mention of Dolby Vision (something that was specifically referenced in the same studio's recent announcement for the 4K release of Stephen King's IT) would appear to indicate that the 4K platter will only offer HDR10. Dolby Atmos soundtracks will be featured on both the 4K and Blu-ray versions of the film.

Based on the popular French comic book series Valérian and Laureline (1967-2010), Luc Besson's long-awaited return to outer space is a madcap explosion of imagination and spectacle that serves up more weird aliens and gimmicks than all of the Star Wars films combined.
